Being in the month of Valentine’s Day, I wanted to share a love song that you can really feel musically without having to focus on the meaning. You don’t need to be enamored with someone to feel the emotion behind a love song, which is astounding.
If you’ve listened to a couple of my Spotify playlists, you would have noticed I sprinkled some non-English tunes into the mix. When you hear a great song, language is not a barrier.
When I first heard “Mon Ami” (by Romanian-Palestinian artist, Arra and Romanian artist, Anastasia) I immediately loved the Arabic influences in the music, in perfect harmony with European pop beats, and mellifluous vocals.
I Googled the lyrics to find out what they were singing about, and it looks like it is about someone coming into your life at an unexpected time, whose love you can feel in their voice; the look of unabashed adoration in their eyes; the unique, endearing qualities about them, and how you adore the way their friendship feels, etc. The world just feels like a more awe-inspiring place with them energetically in your life. It’s a beautiful message, especially if you’re familiar with this feeling.
I know that feeling sounds like a fairytale, but I know it’s real because I’ve seen it once, many years ago. Striving to feel that with anyone else feels kind of forced and phony, in comparison. It’s one of those rare, classic romance stories.
This song by ARRA and Anastasia (produced by Cartel Diem) lyrically and melodically illustrates the organic love between two people who are simultaneously lovers and friends, which is beautiful. If a true friendship is the foundation for a relationship, and the respect stays intact, it’s a solid formula for a healthy, long-lasting union.
The stunning, desert-themed music video for “Mon Ami” was produced by Silviu Mîndroc.
