5 SONGS TO CHILL ON THE DECK AND WATCH THE SUNSET TO

Saturday May 14, 2022

For those quiet summer evenings out on the deck in a lawn chair, a blanket, and a hot drink, watching the sunset turn into a veil of stars.

“Favours” – Jon Vinyl

Toronto, Canada

Kicking this blog off with a new single from my city: “Favours” by Jon Vinyl possesses the vibe we used to feel when listening to a new R&B tune in the ’90s! At 23 years old, Jon Vinyl lyrically and performatively showcases vulnerable emotion that listeners can easily understand and connect with.

“Save Me From Love (Remix)” – Pàrasoul

Los Angeles, CA

As I first listened to “Save Me From Love (Remix)” by Los Angeles-based, Portuguese-American R&B artist, Pàrasoul, I already loved the ’90s R&B vibe, the dulcet vocals, seductive lyrics, then the beat dropped at 0:39 and I was hooked! Remixed by Kofi Owusu Ofori.

“Meadows” – Double Wish

Los Angeles, CA

Described as “dark sunshine pop”, this song can easily be the intro song in a movie, as the main character is about to embark on their journey that is the film plot. Big summertime road trip energy!

Active in various projects the Los Angeles music scene since 2007, multi-instrumentalists, Philippe Andre and Ada Sabolick have combined Sabolick’s bedroom demos with Andre’s studio recordings, and Double Wish was born!

“Bring On The Blues” – DYLYN

Canada

If you dig artists like Lana Del Rey, K. Flay, Olivia Rodrigo, and Hayley Williams, you’ll love Canadian alt rock/pop artist, DYLYN!

With lyrics such as “I don’t really care if I lose control/Wanna feel the highs and the lows/Life is just a never-ending song/and I’m gonna play it until I’m all gone”, “Bring On The Blues” sounds like it’s about being fine with feeling all the intense emotions life has to offer, as long as you’re living life to the fullest.

“G-d Knows What” – Nervous City | Nervous Self

Stokholm, Sweden

This song was originally released 3 years ago, but I’m happy to see it make its way to Canadian ears! The English debut from the Swedish artist is melancholic, pulsating, with a message of continuing on the path of discovering one’s purpose, no matter the challenge. The video edits and graphics by Pauline Branke.
