HAVE PEOPLE IN YOUR CIRCLE, BUT NO ONE IN YOUR CORNER? ZOE WEES RELEASES "THAT'S HOW IT GOES (GUITAR VERSION)"

Friday November 5, 2021

As I hit “play” on German singer, Zoe Wees’ video for “That’s How It Goes (Guitar Version)”, first thing I noticed {besides her neon hair and the abandoned swimming pool} was her powerful, raspy voice and raw emotion as she hits every note. With lyrics like, “All my life, all my life, all my life/ Yeah, I’ve been told/ That’s how it, that’s how it goes, yeah/ You gotta fight on your own/ Who needs enemies, friends like these/ When I need them they don’t call/ They all got their reasons, their demons, they don’t know/ Devil by my side, tryna take my life/Social control/ But that’s how it goes”, all I could think about was, “I can see Britney Spears covering this song if she ever decides to return to the stage”, due to what she’s endured for the past 13 years

Apart from that, if you’ve ever felt alone while surrounded by “frienemies” or people who show up for you only when it suits them, but shamelessly don’t return the favor when you need them the most, this song is beyond relatable. You know- those people who are in your circle, but never in your corner?

At just 19 years old, Zoe Wees has lyrically spelled out precisely how it is being on the receiving end of that absolute f*ckery. No matter how long you’ve known those people, you can absolutely distance yourself from energy like that to free up space for folks with better energy. Do better, be better, and SURROUND YOURSELF with better because you DESERVE better!

Despite being referred to as “a YouTube Artist On The Rise”, “an Apple Music Up Next artist”, “One To Watch” by Billboard earlier this year, as well as one of the “Most Exciting Young Musicians on Planet Earth” by GQ, and two of her singles off of her debut album Golden Wings  garnering 860 million+ combined streams internationally, this is the first time I’ve actually heard of her and I can already see why she’s got everyone talking! I explored her other singles and every song is just as compelling, emotional, relatable and powerful as the next.
