10 SONGS TO LISTEN TO WHILE YOU'RE CHILLING BY THE FIREPLACE!

“Lemonlime” – Barrett Staples

Seattle, WA

This is exactly the type of song my childhood self pictured having a glass of wine to while on a date with a guy in a nice suit. A classic neo-soul track that you’re guaranteed to love 30 years from now- like a high-quality, classic little black dress!

In honor of the Year of the Tiger, Staples is releasing brand new singles each month drawing from themes of nature, relationships and introspection. In addition to his own work, Barrett is prolifically active in assisting instrumental & vocal production, writing/recording, and soon, videography, for a plethora of other local artists via his two studios, Le Cove & Le Grove.

“Thorns” – WALWIN

London, UK

This song is the kind of nu-nostalgia I love! “Thorns” by London-based pop/rock artist WALWIN could easily fit into an early 2000’s playlist with the likes of Fall Out Boy, Secondhand Serenade, Yellowcard, My Chemical Romance and the like!

WALWIN is back in 2022 with his newest release, ‘Thorns’. A beautiful pop-punk track about coming to terms with a failed, toxic relationship and loving yourself, WALWIN’s beautifully harsh vocals scream “I’ll be fine without you / and I’m gonna move on and forget you”.

“Anywhere But Here” – Ayla D’Lyla

New York City, NY

NYC-based songstress, Ayla D’Lyla’s breathy vocals, paired with a very nonchalant musical vibe accentuates the jadedness while singing about exploring the world outside of her city.

Ayla details the song’s inspiration, calling it, “A gentle, light song that captures a journey of escapism. ‘Anywhere But Here’ embodies the feeling of leaving the smoggy city and finding satisfaction in the simplicity of nature.”

“SLYME” – Nico Sweet, RubbaBand Shan

United States

Combining the genres of alt hip-hop, a bit of funk, and ’80s inspo (the chorus melodically samples the late ’80s classic “Tell It To My Heart” by Taylor Dayne!), Nico Sweet and RubbaBand Shan have unleashed a solid party tune in “SLYME”!

“SLYME” is the embodiment of groove and energy. This song instantly draws you in with a strong bassline in the beginning and transitions straight into Nico Sweet’s electrifying flow followed up by RubbaBand Shan wavy melodies.

“Soft Gold” – PRIDIAN

Estonia

For fans of bands such as Bring Me The Horizon and Deftones, Estonia-based industrial metalcore band, PRIDIAN has unleashed their video for “Soft Gold”, in which the track takes a serious look at addiction and the unfortunate events that sometimes need to take place in order to turn one’s life around.

“Soft Gold” is the first peek at what Pridian has to offer. The track is a catchy combination of anthemic choruses and synth-heavy verses with breaks inspired by electronic music. However, it is no less heavy than any of their previous tracks from their debut LP “The Rotten Unknown” released under the name ÆØNS.

“Check Mate” – Sweetblade ft. Halley Feaster & Chris Wirsig

United States

This is the first time I have ever said the following sentence: “This song is like if Mindless Self Indulgence and Bjork had a lovechild.” I mean that in the most refreshing way possible!

Angry, edgy, but still sweet – that’s SweetBlade’s self description. With their first single “Check Mate” they establish their brand of beats, Pop energy, hard rocking guitars, weird sounds, and angry rap/vocals. Chris Wirsig and Halley Feaster combine the different elements in one HyperPop style song: “I’m just the distraction so that they can check your mate…”

“Soul Fire” – Savaya

Costa Rica

With a tropical dance sound, mixed with alt-R&B and the butter-smooth vocals, Costa Rican artist Savaya brings an inspirational, hopeful, positive vibe in his single “Soul Fire”!

“It was inspired by my own personal & spiritual journey the last 5 years – the surety, affirmation & confirmation I received on what I am, who I am, what I should be doing… It was inspired by inspiration – I made it to inspire other people. I thought to myself, I don’t want to keep this sweetness of truth a secret, so how do I put it in a song, to share it, and make people dance in joy to the truth of their being… I want everyone to know that they have all they need deep inside, and that it is a power beyond their imagination, & to stop playing small & harness it.” – Savaya

“Undeniable” – The Independent Sound

Canada

For fans of Babyface, John Legend, and Michael Jackson (particularly his ballads), The Independent Sound has unleashed a powerful, soulful, deep song with a classic ’90s R&B sound in “Undeniable”!

The smooth melody and simple but moving acoustic instrumentation is unique in the genre.

“I Got A OP” – Xuper Heru

United States

“We created “I Gotta Op” to inspire people when they are facing a challenge or a challenger. We can imagine this song playing at any sporting event. It was created in a way that when performed with a live band it can move an entire arena. The song was originally written for a rap competition which we won first prize and we decided to make it a song to inspire others.” – Xuper Heru

“Bitter” – Dalby

Atlanta, GA

Produced by Chris “Tricky” Stewart, “Bitter” is a song that sums up the feeling of being over someone and the things that they put you through. It’s a cheeky, freeing anthem that describes what that person is going through once they lose you and you’re over them. It’s mid-tempo/upbeat and has a sort of rock feel that makes you want to scream it at the person who wronged you.
