Ever since the events in 2020 forced most of the world to stay at home for months at a time, and the lack of live concerts, there has been an increase of musicians hopping on social media to showcase their talents on apps like YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, etc. With that amount of competition, it can be a challenge to stand out of the crowd.

Hailing from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, guitarist Adieu is one of the few who stands out from the crowd!
His posts on social media eventually lead to working with companies like .Strandberg*, D’Addario, Swiss Picks, Fishman Pickups and more,  being the only artist in the region to be recognized as part of the official roster of these overseas companies.

He has recently released his awe-inspiring instrumental, progressive metal single “Ascension”, featuring Yas Nomura, which combines progressive metal, electronic music and fusion, and was primarily influenced by playing a lot of RPGs/JRPGs such as Final Fantasy during the lockdown.

There are heavy guitar riffs yet room for emotion and somewhat jazzy piano breaks with some complex textures overlapping to create quite an elaborate yet dense instrumental piece (with a tip of the hat to bands like Intervals, Periphery and Animals as leaders ).  The song is a nice blend of virtuosic talent, yet has atmospheric parts with a little soulful melodic section in the middle and ends with just a haunting piano melody.  It features Yasutaka Nomura. Richard Blumenthal,  Anthony Barone and Adam Bentley.  Mike Morphett, who did the artwork, had worked on a few projects for Elder Scrolls online and Fallout76 prior to this and really helped out with the ‘game’ concept for the final design.

Adieu is a pioneer of the progressive / instrumental guitar scene in Southeast Asia.  His contributions to the genre can be seen in his debut solo album “D’if” (2017) featuring guests Adam Rafowitz and Adam Bentley (Arch Echo), Tom Monda (Thank You Scientist) Diego Tejeida, Conner Green (HAKEN), Bumblefoot (Sons of Apollo/Guns and Roses) and Luke Martin (Plini). Combining and fusing different elements of Progressive metal, Djent, Post-Rock, Math Rock, Shred, as well as early 90’s Japanese rock.  Prior to recording his debut EP he has also Performed as an opening act for Kiko Louriero (Megadeth), Tosin Abasi (Animals As Leaders) and CNBLUE just to name a few.  He has released a few notable singles with guest features such as Japanese Instagram sensation, Ichika Nito as well as a solo contribution to Maroon Valley featuring, Sithu Aye and Jacob Umansky (Intervals).
