Before I heard Ian Blackwood’s cover of “Leave Before You Love Me” by Marshmello and The Jonas Brothers, I’ve never actually heard the original.

I really dig the Actor / Singer / Songwriter / Producer /Photographer’s  version, so I checked out the Jonas version. Although each track is special in their own way, I prefer Ian Blackwood’s. The vocal harmonies are smoother, with more of a chill pop/rock vibe à la The 1975.

I remember a few years back he was in this band I wrote about {in my Jamsterdam Radio days} called The Posts with producer, James Robertson (drums) as well as Will Marr (former illScarlett guitarist) and thought he looked familiar. When I realized he was the drummer, Kyle Bateman on the TV show “Instant Star” (which I used to actually watch.. religiously), it was a pleasant surprise to really hear him sing!

My reaction to the GTA-based artist’s cover takes me back about a decade when his sister, Sarah Blackwood and Walk Off The Earth covered that Gotye song “Somebody That I Used To Know” in a YouTube video that went viral, and I preferred their “4 guys, a girl and a guitar” version.  Needless to say, talent runs strong through that family!

I’ve decided to throw one of Ian’s music videos off his YouTube channel into the mix here, in case you wanted hit the red button and the notification bell! He’s got a variety of content on there like a podcast, music videos, collaborations and more.
