As summer comes to a close, school’s out, football’s back, the air becomes more crisp, and people fight strangers online about pumpkin spice lattes, this calls for a sounddtrack to commemorate autumn of 2022! Here are 7 of my picks!
“Oh Lord Hear My Cry” – Cage Willis
United States
A fierce, gritty, catchy tune that is a little bit new country, a little rock ‘n’ roll! “Oh Lord Hear My Cry” by American singer, Cage Willis sounds like it is for those who work themselves to the bone every day, despite how it affects their health. Relatable for many!

“More Than Friends” – Talii
United States
Talii’s vocals sound like the classic ’90s R&B singer voice (think Brandy and Tamia), but now when I hear every new single, I automatically think “This is Talii!” “More Than Friends” is based on a conversation she had with a girl friend (who was complaining about her toxic boyfriend), then Talii suggesting she could treat her better if they were more than friends. The song started as a vocal sample Talii and her boyfriend/producer, Gbliz created together. Phil Mango (of Luxury Lane) added the afrobeats flair.

“Yours” – townsend
United States
I’ve noticed artists create their best work when life is less-than-stellar. American artist, townsend wrote this deeply honest tune over the course of a few months, while trying to get over someone. You know when you repeatedly have vivid flashbacks of the good times, and the memories just cut you even deeper, but you know you have to move on in order to be happy? You were probably not even dating the person, but they showed you kind of love that you should still continue to hold as a standard, but look for it in someone else.
“Yours” is devastatingly beautiful, pure, moody, and hopeful. You can really feel the emotion through townsend’s voice throughout the song.

“Peach Pit” – Dance Yourself Clean
Seattle, WA
A catchy song with harmonic vocals and a solid dance beat, “Peach Pit” by the Seattle-based group, Dance Yourself Clean is a staple to have in all party playlists! It’s refreshing and easy to listen to!
Dance Yourself Clean started in Seattle (2013) as an indie dance party that grew into the first touring dance party in North America. After moving to Los Angeles to expand the party and creating their own record label called Lights & Music Collective, and producing for other artists, “DYC” decided to turn their party into a musical project.

“circular” – conversation piece
United States
This upbeat song with driving bass, heart-pumping drums, and melodic guitar riffs is paired with pleasantly harmonic vocals and vulnerable lyrics.
The song illustrates the desire to going though the cycle of rumination, with the desire to feel like themselves again.

“Another Broken Heart” – Talei
United States
This song is part pop, part disco, and is like a conversation with a close friend who is giving you relationship advice on your new guy who is waving all these red flags that you don’t see because he says and does all the things you want to see and hear, in the efforts to “love bomb”. The friend might be jaded, but the intent to protect your heart is good there.
Talei’s buttery-smooth vocals has that same element of genre versatility like that of Emily Haines of Metric and Broken Social Scene! An artist to watch!

“Two Sides” – ari hicks
Canada
I love ari hicks’ voice and style. If you’re fans of artists such as INNA and Lady Gaga, you’ll love “Two Sides”! The juxtaposition of the upbeat, slapping beats, the blunt and “done with this two-faced sh*t” attitude vs. her soft , yet powerful voice in the single is an arresting combo. A big tune!
