You know those songs that make you miss someone you loved for a season, who you had fun with just sitting on fire escapes, and listened to your favorite music even if they didn’t like it, until they moved far away? But you never had the chance to ask them to stay? Dream pop/indie rock artist, Austin Lewis brings on the nostalgia with his single “Strawberry Lemonade”! A song as naturally sweet as the title, this is one of those songs that will absolutely be on romantic playlists for years to come.

“Rex Mundi” – Cat Ryan

This upbeat shoegaze song by British band, Cat Ryan is already musically and melodically cute, but finding out it was named after lead singer, Mary-Anne’s aunt and uncle’s greyhound, Rex Mundi (Latin for “King of the world”) was just the cherry on top!
The theme is inspired by the speed and strength of grehounds, but quoting the press release: “In the song, Rex is running from social injustice but realises this won’t make a lasting change so adopts an alternative mindset. He attempts to fight and rise up against the perpetrators to become the ‘king of the world.”

“YOYO”- Fior
NYC, New York
If a neon rainbow were an R&B song with an upbeat, disco vibe, it out be “YOYO” by NYC-based indie pop/R&B artist, Fior, which was produced by the legendary Scott Storch! This is a great celebratory song for anyone who feels like they’ve missed out on the past two summers due to endless pandemic-induced lockdowns and restrictions. The vibrant video was directed by Alfredo Flores (Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Selena Gomez)!

“Wait For Me” – Agat

“Wait For Me” by Israeli drill/alt hip-hop artist, Agat is a banger! Definitely one of those songs DJs at clubs would spin, the chorus drops, and the entire crowd goes buckwild on the dance floor! Already a strong song as it is, I can absolutely see various dubstep DJs remix it in their own style and it being well-received in all its incarnations.

“Come To Life” – Shady Baby

I love how this song makes me feel like it’s the early 2000s. You know- those videos that have the neutral, minimalist backgrounds, singer standing right in front of a ring light you can see reflected in their eyes, and the band members all donning some kind of animal print and leather combo. The entire band probably have their supermodel partners somewhere near the set, smoking cigarettes, drinking Naked green drinks, while clutching their bright-coloured Balenciaga Motorcycle City bags. It’s that kind of rock to me. Love it.
